Mandarin learning, at your own pace
Mandarin Meadow is an English-guided self-study course for children, teenagers and adults. It brings listening, speaking, reading and Simplified Chinese handwriting together in one learning path.
Choose by language experience
The 16 courses contain 184 lessons in four stages. Course numbers describe a learning sequence, rather than a school year, age requirement or formal proficiency certificate. Early courses use familiar family, school and everyday scenes. Later courses develop longer readings, culture, literature and supported explanations.
Adult beginners can begin with Course 1 and adapt a model sentence to their own life. Learners with more experience can use each course’s prerequisites and outcomes to choose a starting point.
How the materials are developed
The curriculum draws on learning themes from 幼儿汉语 1–4 and 中文 1–12. It includes original graded texts and adaptations, organised for learners using Mandarin as an additional language. AI-assisted drafting and editing are part of the development process.
Automated checks compare vocabulary, pinyin, sentence models, reading questions, dialogues and recording scripts. These checks support consistency; they are not an independent teaching accreditation. Image sources and licences are listed in the footer.
What practice results mean
First-choice answers and later retries are recorded separately. A completed recording task means that you made a recording; it does not certify pronunciation accuracy. Written responses use reflection and supporting examples, rather than automatic grading.
Audio and progress
Prepared Mandarin audio plays where available. Other text uses a Mandarin voice installed on your device. Voice recordings stay in the current browser tab and are cleared on reload or exit. Learning progress can remain on the device, with progress downloads and optional sign-in sync available in a lesson.
