The stream’s song: a voice that grows

小溪流不停奔流，把沿途看见的景物带进自己的歌声。

xiǎo xī liú bù tíng bēn liú， bǎ yán tú kàn jiàn de jǐng wù dài jìn zì jǐ de gē shēng。

The little stream keeps flowing and carries the scenery it passes into its song.

更多水流与它汇合以后，小溪逐渐成为宽阔的河流。

The raft travels with the current and changes direction as the channel bends.

风雨来临时，河水变得汹涌，声音也更响亮。

When wind and rain arrive, the river becomes turbulent and its sound grows louder.

山谷里的回声重复着歌声，却不能代替小溪自己的前行。

The echo in the valley repeats the song but cannot replace the stream's own movement forward.

A happy little stream sings softly over pebbles in a valley, moving forwards beneath the sun and a seemingly smiling moon.

小溪流一会儿拍着岸边的石头，一会儿触到新长的小草；遇到大石，他绕过边缘，从低处流过，山谷的回声也跟着响起来。

xiǎo xī liú yí huì er pāi zhe àn biān de shí tou， yí huì er chù dào xīn zhǎng de xiǎo cǎo； yù dào dà shí， tā rào guò biān yuán， cóng dī chù liú guò， shān gǔ de huí shēng yě gēn zhe xiǎng qǐ lai。

The stream touches stones and new grass, winding around large rocks and flowing through lower ground as the valley echoes.

他经过一小片平地，草叶在水边弯下来，卵石把声音分成许多细小的节拍。小溪流没有赶着跳过这些地方，而是在弯弯的岸边找到自己的路，遇见新的转弯，就让水声跟着转过去。

Across a flat stretch, grass bends above the stream and pebbles divide its sound into small beats as it finds its way around bends.

枯树桩说：“留下来吧！”枯草也劝他休息，小溪流却笑着回答：“我还要向前走。”水声穿过它们身边，向山谷外流去。

kū shù zhuāng shuō：“liú xià lai ba！” kū cǎo yě quàn tā xiū xi， xiǎo xī liú què xiào zhe huí dá：“wǒ hái yào xiàng qián zǒu。” shuǐ shēng chuān guò tā men shēn biān， xiàng shān gǔ wài liú qù。

“Stay here!” says the stump, and dry grass urges rest; the stream answers, “I must keep going,” and flows out of the valley.

别的小溪流也汇进来，细细的一条水线成了一条小河，水面更宽，声音更响，他便唱着新的歌，继续向远处走。

bié de xiǎo xī liú yě huì jìn lái， xì xì de yì tiáo shuǐ xiàn chéng le yì tiáo xiǎo hé， shuǐ miàn gèng kuān， shēng yīn gèng xiǎng， tā biàn chàng zhe xīn de gē， jì xù xiàng yuǎn chù zǒu。

Other streams join, turning the narrow thread into a river with wider water and louder sound, singing a new song as it goes.

新的水流从不同方向来到身边，有的先绕过石头，有的沿着浅浅的沟流来。他们碰在一起，声音先有些不同，随后渐渐连成更响亮的歌；岸边的空间没有忽然变小，是他们的身体真的变宽了。

Currents arrive by rocks and shallow channels, joining their different sounds into a louder song as their combined body widens.

小河托着木筏，推着船只，继续向前；乌鸦问：“为什么不停下来？”他仍然唱着歌，向下游奔流。

xiǎo hé tuō zhe mù fá， tuī zhe chuán zhī， jì xù xiàng qián； wū yā wèn：“wèi shén me bù tíng xià lai？” tā réng rán chàng zhe gē， xiàng xià yóu bēn liú。

The river carries rafts and boats; “Why not stop?” asks a crow, but it keeps singing and rushing downstream.

A small boat moves along the river as trees pass behind and a bridge appears ahead, alternating light and shade beneath its arch.

Larger rivers strengthened the flow, widening the space between banks and leaving pebbles behind. He carried his valley song along, louder at each joining, with ever larger boats appearing.
